PAPERS YOU NEED TO READ
This page lists the essential, seminal technical papers that define the logging tools and analysis techniques that form the foundation of our science. There are tens of thousands of papers more modern than those listed here, but most of them rely on these foundational papers to support their new work. Those recent authors assume you are familiar with ll the early stuff, so a good course or two on the basic principles will help you along your career path.

This bibliography is subdivided into sections that follow the chapter designations of the original plan for my 1986 textbook. The reference style is my own: title, authors, source, year.  Some entries appear more than once as they cover more than one of my subdivisions.

Use the links at far right to jump to topics of interest. You can also use Edit >> Find to search for keywords or author names.  However many important papers dealing with a specific topic are not obvious from their title.
